What is Reiki?
The most popular form of Reiki today is the Usui Style developed by Dr. Mikao Usui in the Nineteenth century in Japan. “Reiki” means “universal life energy” in Japanese. It is the transmission of the Universal Energy and a form of hands-on Energy Healing.
Reiki is not a massage therapy. It is a “hand-touch” healing, which is considered as one of the most ancient healing techniques in Asia. In Japanese, “Hand-touch” (= “teate” 手当 ), means “treatment.” It is the tradition that the ancient Japanese treated injuries and illness with a touch of hands.
The Reiki practitioner applies gentle hand touch on a receiver’s clothed body. Reiki is a technique of transmitting the universal life energy to the receiver through the practitioner. The practitioner acts as a channel of the universal life energy to the receiver. The receiver will usually feel warmth and sensation over the area where the practitioner’s hands are laid.
Reiki is a pleasant, holistic method of healing and safe for any individuals. You can combine Reiki with any other conventional or alternative healing modalities.
The result of Reiki practice varies from person to person, depending on other internal and external factors, including receiver’s conditions, symptoms, openness and sensitivity to the universal energy. Receivers respond to Reiki differently, yet it is common that they often experience sensations (such as heat, cold, vibration, tingling or heaviness) and experience the sense of peacefulness, joy and happiness. It is also common that hidden or suppressed emotions from the past come to surface to let go.
The receiver usually becomes aware of the result on the same day or the following day. The effect may often last for several days. In a rare case, the receiver may need a couple of sessions to become aware of the result. Whether the result is noticeable to the receiver or not, the practitioner always creates an energetic shift in the receiver’s soul, mind and body, charge with the universal energy and restore balance for total wellness and well-being. Reiki is a subtle but very powerful tool.
