Conscious Relationship (October 8, 2007)

As you grow spiritually, the quality of your relationship with your partner should improve. This is especially the case when you and your partner are both on a spiritual path respectively. It does not have to be on the same path, but it is important that both of you respect each other’s path, not controlling the other.

There is some basic spiritual wisdom which is universally valuable for developing a beautiful conscious relationship. I will explain some of them below.

1. It is no need to mention that “trust”, “respect” and “communication” are the most fundamental principles that apply to a conscious relationship. Trust and mutual respect in partnership strengthens the Heart (4th) Chakra, while improved communication strengthens the Throat (5th) Chakra.

2. Equal partnership: At the spiritual level, two partners should develop an equal partnership. It means that two Souls are supportive, but equally independent and responsible for the own. One Soul controlling another or codependency is an obstacle to deepening spiritual journey.

3. Receiving & giving: An equal partnership also means that two partners receive and give love equally. Relationships where one giving too much or one receiving too much will never last or grow. We learn so much from giving, and therefore receiving is precious, and vice versa. It is just like that you can perceive the light as you know what the darkness is. According to the Universal Law (as Kabbarah says), the more you give, the more you receive. This is the Universal Truth. If you give love to others, you will not only receive more in quantity, but also receive better in quality. If you don’t know how to give, then you will probably be stuck by not receiving enough.

4. Maintaining an own moment and spiritual space: In order to develop an equal partnership, it is quite obvious that you may have to appreciate the value of maintaining an own moment and space for spiritual practice. Practically speaking, it does not have to have an entire room alone, but the moment that you can close your eyes and connect with your Soul in peace, away from day-to-day activities.

5. No relationship lasts permanently: We need to accept the Universal Truth that no relationship will last forever. Physically speaking, we all die and you will be eventually separated from your partner. Once you leave the physical body and return to the spiritual realm, you cannot stay together as a couple with your partner. The Truth is that two partners are not living for the future, but living at present. You must focus on the presence and enjoy now fully rather than being controlled by the fear and anxiety for the future.

6. Non-Attachment: Emotional clinging, co-dependency and attachment to the future are commonly seen in relationships, but they are obstacles to having a successful conscious relationship. The more attached you are, the more difficult to appreciate the beauty of the true relationship. When you learn how to let go of the fear, trusting your own Self as well as the partner’s, your relationship will become more meaningful and last longer.

7. Growing together: In a conscious relationship, two partners will grow together as much as individually. Don’t you think that someone spiritually growing is very attractive, right? This is the key for maintaining passions for each other as one’s growth stimulates the other romantically. So, keep growing! The Truth is that your partner is the reflection of your own Self and a guide to help you grow spiritually.

The Universe teaches us that, with applying all the wisdom explained above, the relationship will grow and last longer. Please remember that the relationship is a beauty, the manifestation of the Heavenly Universe! Enjoy!
